Happy Autumn Everyone!
My last article didn’t land so I will add it to this issue’s info if I may.
Our biggest news is that we can finally announce we have been approved by the Clean BC Communities Fund to receive a grant valued at $1.4-million. That is awesome news HOWEVER our project cost is $2.14-million! We have raised $460,000 to date and are still searching for approximately $300,000. (It is required of us to contribute 35% of the project cost.) To that end, we are close to achieving charitable status, and continuing to apply for other grants to raise this money. We gratefully received $2000 from Intact Insurance recently. Please stay tuned as we have not given up on our plan to restore and preserve our community hall.
Thanks to all of you who launch your boats in Kootenay Bay and put money in the donation box. Few people carry cash these days so we are discussing setting up e transfer to make it easier for you and for us. Some things are easier said than done though! It is on our list. Kudos to Ben Lahneman and others who keep us apprised of the goings on at the Boat Launch. Please remember it is not a campground folks and definitely not a site for bonfires.
We are in the midst of improvements at the Crawford Bay Community Park (not to be confused with the Regional Park where the old airstrip was). By the time you read this issue, new lighting in the William Fraser Pavilion should be installed. We have purchased a new pickleball net and basketball nets. At the Community Corner, (CC) we have had a problem with the water leaking below ground. Thanks to Don Horvath this has been addressed and remedied. Many thanks to Lois and Don Lein and Bryan Anger for replacing the broken kitchen window in the CC. Thanks to Enzo Salviulo for keeping the Enchanted Playground trimmed and to Donovan Hough for taking the park garbage to the transfer station regularly. Jesse Davidson helped Donovan set up the soccer irrigation system and we appreciate their effort.
We are working with a Company called ROTH IAMs to create an Asset Management Plan for our community owned facilities. They recently produced an impressive report for us about the condition of our three assets and the many ways we can improve and update them; from fencing to signage, from parking to water closets and all points in between. There is a lot to do and we are always looking for assistance so if you read anything here that interests you please email me: lkeraiff@cbhall.ca
Lastly, thanks Enzo for mowing and trimming on the hall property. It looks terrific. Many thanks to Malena Draper, our custodian for keeping the hall so clean and tidy. By the way my friends, the interior of our community hall is in much better shape than the exterior and is available through bookings@cbhall.ca. Thanks to Lindsay and her dance students for filling the hall with joyful noises for the past many months. Also thanks to TAPs for twice monthly lunches and to all the community committees who hold their meetings in our hall. Hopefully this year someone will be inspired to bring the community Christmas potluck dinner back to the hall! PLEASE.
