My brother recently said to a group of us: “Make your dreams come true.” Words to live by I think! May 2026 be the year; for all of us. Congratulations to Dee for her expansion into a Kootenay wide publication of the Mainstreet; perhaps the start of her dream’s work?
The Crawford Bay Community Hall was full of joyful noises this holiday season. The 25th annual Bevy of Angels Craft Faire created and organized by the amazing Jaqueline Wedge as well as the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Party hosted by Megan Rokeby-Thomas (whose work ethic is boundless) were triumphs. Decorations, lights, trees, Santas, music, magic and enchantment were in attendance. And then there was the FOOD! Huge kudos to the East Shore youth group who catered both events under the guidance of Angie Clark and Garry Sly. Both celebrations of Community and kinship were gratefully enjoyed by everyone present.
Since I last wrote in this fine paper, our Association’s efforts to raise funds for our Hall Restoration Project have been generously honoured by: FortisBC, Home Hardware in Creston, The Gray Creek Store, Pyramid Building Supplies Ltd (also of Creston) and numerous local residents. Over almost SIX years we have raised: $1,909,787 with $236,000 still needed… Our plan is to start THIS YEAR! We just need a bit more help to jump the final hurdle. We were granted Charitable Status in September, so can issue income tax receipts now. Please consider a donation to help us restore our beloved 87 year old community hall; used continuously since 1938 with the exception of the Covid years. Please eTransfer: donate@cbhall.ca or mail a cheque to: Hall Reno Fund Box 71 Crawford Bay, BC V0B1E0.
Of course we continue to apply for grants. We also continue to ask businesses, friends, neighbours and family. To date, the BC Government, Federal Government, RDCK, Columbia Basin Trust and Nelson & District Credit Union have all been standing with us on this journey. All Donors will have their names prominently displayed in the new entryway if they so choose. You can follow our progress on our FB page: @crawfordbayhall OR on our website: www.cbhall.ca. We also have a thermometer to display funds raised. Thanks to the Boswell Heritage Society for letting us have the one they used during the purchase of ”The Heart”. Thanks to Jaqueline Wedge it is refurbished to display our Hall Project’s progress, we just need to get it standing up where you all can see it!
Lastly, I would like to share that The Crawford Bay & District Hall & Parks Association operates on a Financial Services Grant: tax dollars received from residents who live between the Rockwood cafe and the Ashram (approximately), including Pilot Bay & Kootenay Bay. We use this grant to maintain the hall building and its eight acres, the Community Park and its eight acres, buildings and playground as well as the Kootenay Bay Boat Launch where we hold a “ License to occupy”. Not a SINGLE PENNY of the Financial Services Grants which we have received since commencing this project in 2020, has been spent on the Hall Restoration Project.
